The project story
MoMa.BIZ is a European initiative that took place from 2011 to 2014 to reduce the impact of private mobility in Business and Industrial Zones. Six partners collaborated to develop tools, training and a participatory pathway across multiple countries.
What we do
MoMa.BIZ creates practical and replicable solutions for sustainable mobility in industrial areas. Our approach combines:
- Participatory research with workers and companies
- Innovative tools like the Mobility Label
- Specialized training for mobility managers
- Ready-made solutions in Boxed Solutions
How does MoMa.BIZ work?
The strength of MoMa.BIZ lies in the collaboration among the six industrial areas and in the participation of local stakeholders such as workers, companies, trade unions, local authorities and public transport operators.
In particular, the project is based on 5 pillars:
- strong international cooperation enabling the exchange of information and expertise among partners and leading to the development of the Boxed Solutions methodology;
- the activation of a Local Mobility Group in the industrial areas, with the task of identifying problems, needs and possible solutions;
- participatory planning of the actions to be implemented locally;
- home-to-work travel surveys for workers;
- mobility management training courses.
Main expected results in the Corso Alessandria Industrial Area
- Offer more services to workers in terms of accessibility and reduce the cost of their home-to-work trips. Because of the crisis and the increase in fuel prices, commuting costs are becoming considerable.
- Citizens' health: by reducing the use of private cars for commuting, the project pursues the important goal of cutting traffic emissions and therefore particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and benzene.
- The project also contributes to another European Union objective: reducing the use of fossil fuels by 20% by 2020.
- Finally, thanks to the European dimension of the project, Asti will have the opportunity to test new sustainable mobility solutions while learning directly from European best practice cases.
- Increase the commercial attractiveness of the Corso Alessandria industrial area, since at the end of the project it will be possible to assign a label related to the quality and efficiency of the transport services available. Companies will therefore be encouraged to settle in areas served by public transport that improves accessibility. This also generates savings for companies, because home-to-work trips have indirect costs, including accident compensation and the reduction of working days.
